NEMT drivers have a huge responsibility in their hands as they are tasked to protect the welfare of clients while they are traveling. They adhere to ethical standards requiring them to respond when clients need their assistance. They must be prompt and courteous.
Furthermore, they must possess appropriate and current licenses for the vehicles they drive. They are required to exceed the minimum driving requirements to ensure high quality of transportation.
At Metrohealth Transportation, we require the following of all our drivers:
- A valid driver’s license with no more than 2 moving violations;
- Passed drug and alcohol screening, as well as certification training,
- At least 21 years of age;
- Have been a licensed driver for a minimum of three (3) years;
- Can speak and understand English proficiently.
Once hired by Metrohealth Transportation, drivers will undergo a probationary driving period where they will work under supervisors to test their suitability and competence.
In all NEMT transactions, drivers are the primary service providers to clients. They interact and strive to understand the needs of patients. Indeed, working under NEMT is tantamount to preserving the life of individuals.
